A field guide for knowing and identifying the many different "first generation" diesel locomotives operated by Michigan's railroads near the end of their use in the last quarter of the 20th Century. Diesel models manufactured by EMD, GE, Alco, Baldwin, Lima, Fairbanks-Morse are featured in both photographs and descriptions as well as what railroads in Michigan used them. All photographs were taken by the author between 1975 and 2000.
